CHORDS

By now, you should be quite familiar with scales.

Now, let’s learn a little something about chords.

Chords are several notes played together to form a harmonious sound.  We will be dealing primarily with Triad Chords which are made up of combinations of 3 keys.

To form a Triad Chord, you would play the 1st, 3rd and 5th notes in the scale.

For example, to form a Triad Chord out of the key of C you would play keys C, E, and G together.

What keys would you play to form a Triad Chord out of the D scale?  Remember that the key of D has 2 sharps: F and C.  Therefore, the triad chord for the D scale is D, F, A.

Another way to become familiar with your fingering is to remember the pattern for building triads.
